Favorite Summer Spots

Whether you are new to the area or are in need of a new destination to explore this summer, today's post is all about my favorite spots to spend during the summer months!

Kalkaska, MI

Ever since I was a kid, our family has had the tradition of camping for about a week in the summertime. We landed on this Park years ago and have loved staying there ever since. There are only four cabins and the rest of the park has spots for RV's, campers and tents. We always rent out a cabin and then go out on our adventures during the day. Floating down the creek, hunting for Petoskey stones, sometimes we go cherry picking and we enjoy the coverage we get from the trees as well as campout food and time with family.

Northern MI

Speaking of Up North, last year Chris and I spent our 1 year anniversary celebration near Charlevoix and we both enjoyed our time so much! We found many different brewery's and wineries to taste test, delicious restaurants, and gorgeous scenery at every turn! We also love Mackinaw and how much there is to do up there, the Upper Peninsula is so gorgeous and if you've never been I urge you to make a trip, who knows it might be your new favorite location.

Holland, MI

We have the in-laws out in Holland, but we also love heading out there for yummy coffee shops, quaint shopping district, Captain Sundae's and of course the beach! This past weekend Chris shared a secret stretch of beach that him and his friends used to frequent when he was growing up, it is available to the public and is great when the regular state park is full. We love jumping in for a swim, packing a picnic and overall just winding down with one another after a long week. The sunsets are gorgeous too if you go on a clear day!

Downtown Market

One of the places we used to go to all the time in the early parts of our relationship was the Downtown Market in Grand Rapids. They have amazing little shops, from cheeses to fresh fish and meat, they even have a spice and olive oil shop. There are also a decent selection of restaurants and one of our favorites is Love's Ice Cream. They have sugar free options which has been wonderful for our new Keto lifestyle and helps cool you down during the hot summer months.

East Grand Rapids. MI

My hometown, another cute little "downtown" spot with yummy restaurants, the water fountain, Reeds Lake and of course Jersey Junction. Definitely not perfect if you want a sugar free alternative but still a wonderful sweet treat. So grab a cone or pack a picnic and find a shady spot overlooking the lake for a fun family activity or a simple and romantic date!
