Your kids are home from school, maybe you are wondering what to do with them this summer, maybe you are still unsure about the post quarantine world. I have put together a small list of fun summer activities for the whole family to enjoy this summer.
I hang out with 2 of my flower girls during the summers and last year we had to get creative with how to utilize our time! This year I thought I would share some fun at-home activities to get your kiddos active and still slip in some education on top of it!
1) Thinking Outside the Box
Every summer it seems like we pull out the big container of chalk from the garage and year after year it can get a bit boring! We made our very own chalk paint and it was a success! We mixed different colors and had a ton of fun coloring in a new way on the sidewalk outside.
Use this simple recipe:
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup water
Food Coloring
2) Rainy Day Blues
Because I look forward to summer all winter long, I always forget about those inevitable rainy days. Many experts will tell you it is okay for your kids to be bored, and I have to agree! Boredom sparks imagination, but if you are dealing with younger kids or your older kids won't stop the "boredom whining," try encouraging them to build a fort.
Have them leave it up all summer and keep it as their fortress of solitude when they need a quiet moment, they're human after all. It makes a great space to nap, or read or to truly spark their imagination.

3) Water Play
For older kids this is an easy thing to arrange, get a blow up pool or just simply turn on your sprinklers. I found this cool sprinkler pool and we got the girls a slip-n-slide for alternative water fun.
If you have younger kids, get them a water table, baby pool or grab an old container/bucket and throw in some bath toys. Water is mess free and keeps everyone cool during these scorching months!
4) Learn Something New
Kids love it when we can give them our time and attention, they also love knowing that you as their caregiver/parent don't know everything!
Sit around your computer or phone and look up a fun new science experiment using homemade ingredients, learn new skills together, who knows maybe you will find something your kid is passionate about.
It's all about quality time, for me. They are only kids for so long, try taking advantage of these moments.

5) Food For Thought
This one might make some of the control nerds uncomfortable, but it is NEVER too soon to start teaching some basic cooking skills.
Have them crack eggs for you or teach them how to measure out ingredients. Kids LOVE IT! They feel so proud of the meal or treat they made and are learning valuable skills that they will need someday.
If an egg cracks to the floor, take a deep breath, it's all a learning process and they won't get it right the first few times. Get out of your own comfort zone and let those kids into the kitchen, who knows maybe it will accelerate their ability to make you breakfast in bed, and wouldn't that be nice!?!?

Those are my top 5 favorite at-home summer activities to do with kids! I hope you liked them and find yourself compelled to blow up that pool, build that fort and invite your precious kids into the kitchen. Most importantly have fun with them and savor every moment this summer.
Love that the girls made the blog! Great ideas, too. We are SO lucky they can hang with you this summer!
