The Power of Jewelry

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

I am going to start this blog post by telling you all that, I used to wear no jewelry!

I was the girl who got her ears pierced at age 6 and double pierced at age 14 and only wore necklaces and earrings on rare occasions. Otherwise I was perfectly content to wake up, get dressed and go about my day.

This also applies to my hair routine, which we can cover in a different post, but I was always about keeping things very simple. Maybe it came from growing up in a home with ONE bathroom and 4 family members plus myself, or the fact that I never wanted to be the stereotypical girl who took forever getting ready.

My journey with jewelry started about 4 years ago. I had a friend invite me to her jewelry party. I went, I had a good time and honestly, I don't think I purchased anything but I did sign up to host my own show to see if I could win any free jewels!

I got a couple of free goodies from it and then just as I expected I was stuck in a vicious cycle of now having the obligation to attend my guests jewelry parties. I had gone through this same sort of thing before with a certain makeup company and after awhile I knew it would fade.

Except that it didn't...

I found myself agreeing to host my own show annually, every Fall. I kept collecting jewelry that I barely wore and at the same time I didn't care because it was a way to get my girlfriends together for a fun night playing in jewelry!

When I made the decision to start working for Premier Designs I had the mentality of "If I'm going to sell it I have to start wearing it, every day."

Game changer.

I didn't realize how much fun it was putting together different pieces to create a whole new look, or that simple and dainty jewelry also had the same effect as bigger and bolder pieces!

The great thing about Premier was their versatility! For the price of one necklace you could turn it into 3-5 different styles that gave the same piece many different looks! Or how a cute leopard print dangle earring could be turned into an elegant gold/pearl stud.

Not only was it a lot of fun putting together new pieces but it was also fun challenging my mind to think of different outfits to put with the jewelry. Many of you are now thinking "Yeah, that's nice, but it also sounds like too much work."

But it's not! That is something I have loved learning about fashion, it doesn't have to be complicated and uncomfortable, it can be simple and comfy or simple and elegant and anything in between.

A tip I have always loved sharing with my friends is styling is as easy as 1-2-3

STEP 1:

Choose a blank canvas! Our closets are filled with "basic" shirts like solid colors or neutrals. You can also select your favorite graphic-tee! In the photo above I am wearing a super comfortable and SOFT Sita Tee from the lovely Elegantees. Check their website here. They are an amazing company that gives back to a cause close to my heart, Anti-Human Trafficking. Also NOTE, I am wearing leggings with this outfit: simple and comfy express!

STEP 2:

Layer with a vest, scarf, jean jacket or your favorite cardigan. It adds depth to your outfit by adding a different texture or color to your outfit. This Erin Duster is also from Elegantees (IN LOVE)

STEP 3:

Accessorize! Adding the jewels, for me, is just a confidence booster. It makes the outfit look put together and polished. Again this pictured look could be a bit simpler with a dainty necklace, stud earrings and a graphic t-shirt, make the look fit your style (or mood) for the day! If you're looking for cute jewels click here, they also are supporters of Anti-Sex Trafficking and have the prettiest gems!

The great thing about this tip is we can all "Shop our Closets" I challenge you to go through your wardrobe and dig out that top that you thought was "too boring" and try throwing a leather jacket or a fleece sweater over it. Then dress it up with some of your favorite pieces, trust me you'll be amazed!

Most of my adult life I knew that doing an exercise, hopping into a shower and throwing some lip gloss on can be mood boosting, but next time you are in a funk, try throwing on a pair of fabulous earrings and feel that pep in your step. Your typical pajama look can be instantly shabby-chic with some earrings or a simple necklace (plus it's brownie points for major effort in the land of quarantining or stay-at-home life)

I have enjoyed developing my relationship with fashion and have found that there is so much power in wearing jewelry!
