Wearing Change

A good percentage of my closet had been filled/replaced by my collection of clothing from Elegantees. I was introduced to this business about 9 months ago through my old job at DVTD.
They were one of the brands we started selling and little did I know how big of an impact they would have on my life, but also the impact they made on how I would shop for the rest of my life!
Trendy, comfortable, size inclusive and ethically sourced and sustained Elegantees is one of my favorite places to shop and here's why:

Comfy/Chic:
The founder of Elegantees grew up in Iowa and is a mother of 2. She also worked in the NYC fashion industry before starting this company. She knows how we as women want to feel cute in the clothes we wear, but also knows how important it is to be comfortable.
I have always joked and said I could sleep in just about any of my Elegantees pieces, but seriously they are oh so soft! And I love that a mom could wear one top or dress to the office and at the end of the day, in that same top or dress, come home to play on the floor with her children.
Ethical Fashion:
The women making these pieces are not only saved from the treacherous wing of human trafficking, they are also given safe jobs at Elegantees with fair wages! They are given a second chance to provide for their families in a safe working environment.
Anti-Human Trafficking:
"Sex trafficking is a form of slavery where people are coerced into prostitution. The overall root of this evil in countries like Nepal are poverty, lack of opportunity, and a desperation for acceptance. The motivation behind Elegantees is our desire to see an end to it."
Sex Slavery is still a HUGE issue all around the world. In fact it's happening right under own very noses! Some of us may be very aware of this sickening truth, but many of us feel like there is nothing we can do.
One of the ways I am supporting this cause is through businesses that are fighting to end human trafficking. Another way is to be more aware of your own surroundings. We unfortunately live in a time and a culture where we are so selfishly focused (myself included!) We are always looking down at our phones and are blinded by our surroundings. Pay attention, not only to keep yourself safe but to notice suspicious activities. You could save lives!
Changing Lives:
Yes, you can head over to their website and read all about their mission and the good work they have been doing over the last decade. But something that made it feel real to me was the precious piece of mail I received a few weeks ago. It was a handwritten note from one of the seamstresses. She thanked me for my support of this business and how my purchases have made an impact on her and her familiy's lives.

Is it cheaper to shop at a bigger clothing company? Yes. Are the clothes sold at large conglomerate stores just as comfy and soft? Maybe. But do any of those other mega businesses support causes? Do they change the lives of their employees by keeping them in a safe working environment and provide job security? Do they have a passionate mission that is selflessly based?
My guess is not. We can change lives through our shopping, we can make this world a better place. We just have to make the decision to do it. Support small businesses, support causes, and together we can change the world
